Hi Nistan,
Thank you for your videos. Perhaps you can make episodes for starters that have limited budget and focus on:

– Equipment for street interviews
– Equipment for indoor interviews
– Equipment for a chase scene (you can make different scene episodes)
– Equipment for travelling light
– Indoor lighting
– Equipment for club scenes and interviews (low light, lots of noise environments)

I saw you were interested in using the ART preamps instead of JuicedLink. Did you go forward with that? If so, can you do a review of the ART preamp? If not and you are using some other solution, I’d be interested. I have a DR-40 and the floor noise is really high (although not the worst to deal with in post)

Hey Peter.
I was looking into it but they are too big and heavy.
Yes i have found another solution that works sooo well. 🙂
Your solution is at the end of this video:

Also, I’d love to hear, is your Tascam as bad as mine is in the video?
I sold it on ebay, clearly stating the problem and it sold for about £20 under it’s retail price so i got most my money back. You could do the same maybe.

No man, mine sounds definitely better than that. I like the sound of the zoom better (I would say the tascam sounds a bit more “metallic”, a bit like a hi-hat and my zoom h1 seems to emphasize the bass, so none of them is exactly was I would like it), but other than the slightly different “colouring” of the sound my tascam does not sound too different from the zoom h1. I am impressed with the sound of your cheap mike there, gonna have to get myself one.

Hi, I just picked up a NEX-6 to replace my 5n, mainly because I’ve heard anecdotally that it doesn’t suffer from overheating as badly as the 5n. I did my first day of tests was a bit disappointed to see worse aliasing and moire than the 5n, even with everything dialed to -3. And there might be more shadow noise as well. Do you have the same results? Do you know if the NEX 6 uses a weaker anti-aliasing filter?

Hey
I’ll check now, so far I’ve been very pleased with it.

hey sorry i can’t find the footage I’d shot with the 5n so that I could later compare it to the 6.
I set up a light on a desk with a few items and made a note of all the settings, but now I lost the 5n’s footage.
From what I’ve shot so far with the 6 moire hasn’t been a problem. As for the noise. I never really tested that on either camera.

I found it! 🙂
I’ll post a comparison soon as I get a chance.

Great, please do. I’m pretty sure they changed something on the NEX-6 sensor. I’m about to return my NEX-6 unless there’s a way to reduce the moire, shadow noise, and increased contrast in the image.

A few more things: do you know of any way to utilize the AEL (auto-exposure lock) toggle in video mode on the NEX-5n? Also, have you ever experienced random rainbow moire when shooting with the 5n a high shutter speed? Whenever I shoot without an ND in daylight and let the shutter go up to 1/4000 or so, the camera starts freaking out and introducing flashes of rainbow moire here and there. Not sure if my camera is defective or if that’s just how the 5n is.

Hey man, I tried to post a question on a youtube video but youtube won’t let me, so here it goes. I see that you’re using the Fancier FC270A tripod video a lot. I’m thinking about buying one, but what I’d want to do, is to separate the 75mm half ball from the head and put a slider in between them. Do you think that is possible? Can you separate the half ball from the head?

Cheers!
Nick

it’s absolutely not possible unfortunately.
also, recently there have been issues with this head and with the flat mount version from varavon, i’ve contacted them and trying to work it out.
